The volunteers of Friern Barnet Community Library received The Mayor of Barnet's award for community service in the annual award ceremony held in the magnificent Council Chamber at the Hendon Town Hall on April 1st. Our loyal volunteer, Frances Briers nominated us in recognition of all the support she has received from our community of volunteers, in what has been a very difficult year for her. Trevor Howes and Joanna Fryer shook hands with Mayor Melvin Cohen and accepted the award on behalf of all the volunteers. In all, twenty four individuals or groups were honoured with the award. These ranged from large groups like our own to two individual street sweepers who are clearly loved by their communities. Afterwards there was an elegant buffet attended by most of the councillors and Andrew Dismore, our representative in the London Assembly. (He replaced Brian Coleman in the elections of 2012.) You can look forward to seeing the framed award hanging in the library.
